TOPIC: Which Country?

Which Country? 9 months 2 weeks ago #944

If you could live in any country you wanted to. Lets say there was no language barrier, which one would you pick and why?

Hmm, well, if Tibet was still a country, ran by the Dalai Lama - I think it would be nice place to live.

But it's not, so we have to find a way to live in the world as it is, or try to change it. I think the US is just as good of a county as any, Canada may be bit kinder, but I think that the weather up there is too cold for me.

I don't think it makes much of a difference to play the blame game with the government for all of your problems, so politics aside - geographically, I would like to live somewhere in the Caribbean, maybe the Bahamas or US Virgin Islands. I have always thought it would be nice to live and work someplace touristy like that.

Recently I've become quite interested in this subject. Businessweek rates Denmark the happiest country in the world, but the long dark seasons are not to my liking. Switzerland comes next, but the cost of living is a bit high.

In Belize it's possible to live quite well for $500/month, and the national language is English. The only thing is they get hurricanes, and their healthcare isn't as good as in America. Thailand has excellent healthcare and so does Costa Rica, they are also cheap, but they have their own language to learn. The Philippines is also interesting.

The more I research this the more there is to research. Generally speaking

- Cost of living

- Healthcare

- Safety i.e. stability/natural disasters

- Special Benefits for Retirees

- Climate and natural beauty

are the main things that I look for.
